Hi, I’m Kamala a graphic designer living in the Washington DC area. Over the past five years, I’ve designed a variety of web and print collateral for a wide range of clients all over the US. I hold a B.S. in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In addition I am furthering my coding skills as a developer in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP.

My passion for art began as a child inspired by my grandmother who is an artist and painter. Growing up with her, she allowed me to explore different mediums to draw and paint with. Over the years I also became an avid pc gamer and became intrigued with web design and HTML (I always wanted to have the coolest looking AOL and MySpace profile pages).

In college I began my studies in biology at the Community College of Baltimore County and continued at the University of Maryland. While in school I began working for a small association where my passion for graphic design and web design was utilized and I was promoted to marketing assistant. With working knowledge of the graphic design industry, I decided to obtain a formal education in the field with completing my Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Through my studies I became even more obsessed with graphic design, typography, illustration, the arts and everything design.

Today, I have the pleasure of freelancing for five years where I have the honor of using my passions to serve businesses and clients all over. My work encompasses print design, user experience, design for web and applications, visual branding, illustration and fine arts, and data visualization. I love all of my clients and together we strive to create strong, unique and genuine brands. I take projects from concept to full development within time and budget of my clients. I have also had the delight of designing event stationery for brides, mothers and public figures. When it comes to events, I’m just as excited as my clients!

Black (and a pinch of teal) is my favorite color. I’m a wife and a mom to an rambunctious boy and an adorable daughter. We have two dogs, a german shepherd mix and a pitbull who keep us active. Coffee, video games, traveling, music and food are some of my favorite things.

I would love to meet you! Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’re interested in working together.

The Process:

Projects begin with comprehensive brand research. This includes questionnaires, market research, competitor analysis, analytical reports and strategic planning. This helps not only to fully understand your vision, but also your industry and demographics. With this, wireframes, sketches and mockups are created and shared with you.

Designs are created from scratch, with your brand’s look and feel as the focus. Pieces are born through inspiration and collaboration from you, the client. This is how great work is created. I am willing to experiement and explore concepts with you. I present, revise and collaborate with you until designs are finalized.

When a project is launched, it is just the start. I am commited to my partnership with my clients. With the power of real world data, feedback and performance, designs are futher optimized.

Stunning! The visual impact of your design is something else! Simply gorgeous! You've been a pleasure to work with.

Kamala Espig was a great asset to me and my business (Eco-Learning Legacies, LLC) during a very busy phase in the first quarter of 2015. I invited her to help me with a graphic design project which involved redoing several posters that a previous intern failed to do a good job on. During the initial qualifying process, I found Kamala to be cordial and professional with a sense of readiness to be of service. She communicated with me throughout the process in a prompt manner when I sent her emails to check on her progress. In the design process itself, she was cooperative with me, taking direction well. She also worked well independently, demonstrating her ability to make good color and design decisions on her own. All in all, I was very pleased with her work.
